Our Mission
SOS Balkanroute exists because people crossing the Balkans deserve safety, warmth, and basic dignity — not silence and neglect. We are volunteers, not a government agency, and we act where the gaps are greatest.
Why we exist
Thousands of people move through the Balkans each year seeking safety, often facing freezing winters, inadequate shelter, and limited access to information about their rights. SOS Balkanroute was founded by local and international volunteers who saw these gaps first-hand and chose to respond directly — with food, supplies, and honest information.
We work independently and rely on donations, in-kind support, and a growing network of volunteers who give their time on the ground.
Our values
Dignity
Every person we support is treated with respect, regardless of their background or legal status.
Neutrality
We provide aid based on need alone, independent of nationality, religion, or politics.
Solidarity
We work alongside local communities and volunteers who show up, again and again, for their neighbors.
Transparency
We report openly on how donations and resources are used to support people along the route.
Want to be part of this?
Whether through a donation, supplies, or your time, there are many ways to support people along the route.
